ABOUT KELLY Schmidt

I help leaders and teams make sense of complex moments.

I've been the person introducing the change, leading through what came next, and trying to make the plan work in the middle of real life.

Now I help leaders and teams the moments that make you ask "what now?" and figure out what to do next.

LESSONS FROM COMPLEX CHANGE

I've lived more than a few "what now?" moments.

Combined five teams into one? Been there.

Rolled out new technology and discovered that changing the system was easier than changing the habits around it? Check.

Tried to help teams that were perfectly polite to one another but still couldn't get anywhere together? You betcha.

Led a team through three leadership changes in six months? Yep.

I've worked through layoffs, rapid growth, shifting priorities, new structures, and plenty of plans that looked good right up until they hit the light of day.

My clients run the gamut from senior executive to new manager and various levels in between. They come from large corporations like Johnson & Johnson, Merck, and Honda, to start-ups, solopreneurs, and boutique firms.

So when things feel complicated, I'm not coming in shocked by the mess. I'm ready to sit in it with you, ask the questions that help, and roll up my sleeves as we work through what comes next.

Keeping It Real

The best leadership metaphors come from real life.

Outside of work, I’m usually doing something that lets me make, solve, or cheer from the sidelines.

That might mean quilting, crocheting, working on a puzzle, tending to succulents, playing the New York Times games, volunteering as a band or robotics parent, or planning the next summer trip to the Adirondacks.

I’m also a dog person, a fan of chocolate, and keen observer of how quirky experiences can somehow always connect back to leadership.
